Hugh McNabney has over 35 years in the investment business. In 1974, he joined McLeod Young Weir & Co. Ltd. and in 1983 became the Chief Financial Officer and a member of its Executive Committee. In this capacity, he was responsible for the Finance, Information Systems, Human Resources, General Services, Secretarial Services and Securities Operations departments. After McLeod was acquired by the Bank of Nova Scotia, he assisted with the integration of the support departments of Scotia McLeod Inc. and those of the bank.
He has served as an Executive Committee Member of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada (IDA) and is a Past Chairman of the Financial Administrators’ Section of the IDA. He also chaired the Working Committee for the new Industry Capital Formula and won consensus between the various SRO’s and the IDA members resulting in a new capital formula. He has also contributed on many other industry regulatory committees. Since retirement, he has worked as a consultant to a number of firms both within the Investment Dealer and Mutual Fund financial services industry.
He has served as a member of the Hearing Panels for the Mutual Fund Dealers Association of Canada and the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada. He was a Director of The Canadian Investor Protection Fund of Canada and served a member of the Coverage Committee and Chairman of the Industry Risk Committee.
Mr. McNabney is a Chartered Professional Accountant (Retired).
