The Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act (“Act”)
and Regulations (“Regulations”) – FINTRAC Webcasts on New Regulatory
Requirements for Reporting Entities
On August 8, 2007, the MFDA issued Bulletin # 0273-M, which advised of amendments made to
the Act and Regulations that will change the obligations of securities dealers (including MFDA
Members). On January 17, 2008, the MFDA issued Bulletin #0295-P which advised of
FINTRAC information sessions (held in various cities across Canada throughout February 2008)
that were aimed at explaining the new regulatory requirements.
In preparation for the coming into force of the new obligations under the Act, FINTRAC will be
holding a series of free webcasts to provide context for the new regulatory requirements and
explain the related concepts in more detail. Time will be dedicated during each webcast to
answer questions submitted by participants during the broadcast.
Webcasts for securities dealers will be held on April 25, 2008 (English sessions from 1:30 P.M.
– 3:00 P.M. EDT / French sessions from 10:00 A.M. – 11:30 A.M. EDT). On April 28, 2008 a
separate webcast will be offered exclusively on the subject of the new risk-based approach and
related requirements. This session will provide guidance on risk assessment, risk mitigation and
enhanced due diligence measures (English session from 1:30 P.M. – 3:00 PM EDT / French
session from 10:00 A.M. – 11:30 A.M. EDT).
Individuals wishing to participate in the FINTRAC webcasts must register in advance. To
